Flashcards with visuals of pictures and vocab words for students to use to reinforce terms

Anticipatory Set: (Motivation and Building Background; Activating prior knowledge; making connections to cultures of students; Cognitive Learning Strategy setting a purpose for reading)
Role play: wear detective hat and bring magnifying class to create excitement over "finding" the meaning of words using context clues.
Teacher will ask students if there is a similar story in their own culture that is like Cinderella and thus make a cultural tie-in. Teacher will also use flashcards to promote active visualization of words along with reinforcement of vocabulary. Teacher will show a picture of the object and the student will have to say the corresponding vocabulary word. Students will be give flashcards to test themselves in groups to promote active learning.
The purpose of the reading will be reinforced by allowing students to write their own story and tell their own variation on the Cinderella theme, using vocabulary words from the lesson.
